{"id":11,"date":"2021-02-05T22:58:55","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T06:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jugo.com\/?p=11"},"modified":"2021-02-05T22:58:55","modified_gmt":"2021-02-06T06:58:55","slug":"healthy-juice-beverage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jugo.com\/es\/healthy-juice-beverage\/","title":{"rendered":"Qualities to Look For in Choosing a Healthy Juice Beverage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When people reach for a healthy beverage, juice is likely one of their first selections.\u00a0 The ability to consume something that tastes good <em>and<\/em> is filled with vitamins and nutrients sounds like a perfect choice.\u00a0 In fact, juice boxes have become a popular \u201chealthy\u201d lunch box element added by many well-intentioned parents.\u00a0 However, not all juice beverages have the same qualities.\u00a0 Before you reach for a jug of brightly advertised and colorful contents, consider the following tips for determining its actual health benefits.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/jugo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Qualities-to-Look-For-in-Choosing-a-Healthy-Juice-Beverage-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"Healthy Juice Beverage\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jugo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Qualities-to-Look-For-in-Choosing-a-Healthy-Juice-Beverage-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/jugo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Qualities-to-Look-For-in-Choosing-a-Healthy-Juice-Beverage-1024x681.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/jugo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Qualities-to-Look-For-in-Choosing-a-Healthy-Juice-Beverage-1536x1022.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/jugo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Qualities-to-Look-For-in-Choosing-a-Healthy-Juice-Beverage-2048x1363.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Look at the ingredients. <\/strong>Some containers on the shelf are \u201cfruit drinks\u201d while others are \u201c100% fruit juice.\u201d\u00a0 The fruit or vegetable should be the first ingredient.\u00a0 If it begins with water and is followed by sugar or corn syrup and a list of undecipherable components it is likely to contain far fewer if any healthy ingredients.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Also, watch out for juices that may be 100% juice but contain a base of another fruit such as apple juice or grape juice.\u00a0 These products may promote an exotic blend (ie, \u201cpeach cranberry cocktail\u201d) but have little amounts of the promoted fruit mixed with a grape juice base.\u00a0 Manufacturers do this because the grape component is less expensive to produce and adds additional sweetness (and sugar!) to the mixture.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Check the nutritional content label for the amount of sugar. <\/strong>Whether naturally occurring or added during manufacturing, sugars make a beverage taste good but can have harmful effects such as tooth decay, excessive production of insulin, and weight gain.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The USDA\u2019s 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/healthyeating.sfgate.com\/usda-recommended-sugar-intake-8628.html\">recommends<\/a> limiting sugar intake to no more than 10% of daily caloric consumption.\u00a0 For a 2,000 calorie diet, that\u2019s about 12 teaspoons per day (about 50 grams).\u00a0 The American Heart Association recommends that women limit consumption to 25 grams per day and men to 36 grams.\u00a0 It is not uncommon to find that a glass of your favorite beverage exceeds those amounts.
